It can’t be !

Everyone was sitting around the fire, laughing, talking and fighting. Inuyasha and Shippo were squabbling for a piece of food. Between irritation and amusement Kagome was trying to calm the half demon down. Miroku was taking advantage of the diversion to eat the leftovers. And she…she was thrilled how they all acted as if nothing had happened. She could not ! She knew she had been intoxicated by that miasma, but….it didn’t change anything. It didn’t make sense ! Why had she tried to kiss Inuyasha ? The one she should have tried to---

She cut her mind track as the perverted monk crossed her mind. Her bowl met her lips and she drank without breathing. It was only when her lungs cried for air that she dared breathing again. It felt good. She closed her eyes in satisfaction. Inuyasha shouted out loud as Kagome used the spell on him.

She never had said anything about it, but sometimes she wondered about the morality of the rosary. The half demon indeed deserved it from time to time, however….maybe a slap would be more human – as weird as it sounded applied to a hanyou – and less like taming a dog. Never had she treated Kirara as an animal (and the demon cat was far closer to one than Inuyasha), respect and affection that was what there was between them. Even so, she knew the rosary had avoided many deaths; she had heard from Kagome how he used to be. There had been a time where the rosary had been necessary. But now ? He had learned how precious a life was and even if sometimes it was still useful….most of the time it felt nothing but an abuse. Kagome was a good person, her best friend, but she wasn’t perfect.

She sighed.

Oh well, since Inuyasha never truly complained about it… It couldn’t annoy him as much as he pretended.

The half demon stood up, his face distorted.

“What was that for !?”

“You can’t steal food from a kid !”

He was the one who stole my food !” he said, accusingly pointing the fox demon.

“That’s not true !” Shippo denied.

“The food was delicious as usual, Kagome-sama.” the monk suddenly said.

“Thank you, Miroku.”

“Haaaaaa ? You ate everything !!”

Another deep sigh took over Sango as she put her bowl down.

“I’m gonna bath.” she said.

“Oh, I’ll come with you !”

Her eyes met Kagome’s joyful one. A slight guilt took over her.

“Um, actually….I would like to relax.”

The girl of the future kept silent for a few seconds before offering her a warm smile.

“I see. I’ll come later then.”

Sango couldn’t help but smile back. She stood up, looked at them a few more seconds and left the bright camp behind her.

***************************************

The onsen wasn’t far away; they had chosen the place for that reason. Nothing was better than bathing after an upsetting day. Small, no more than three people would fit in at the same time, she didn’t mind however. She just needed to---

The sensation of her body pressed against his rushed through her mind. Quick, she undressed herself and almost jumped in the warm water. Her muscles immediately released their grip and pleasure took over. It didn’t last though, her mind wasn’t ready to let her go yet.

What was wrong with her ? Why did she--- She just didn’t understand herself. Inuyasha…he was a good friend, a good ally. That was it. So…why ?

Her body shuddered as the cool wind breathed a little louder.

No she should not give any credit to it. Nothing had happened. No one cared. She shouldn’t either. It was like a dream. No meaning. Love---

The monk crossed her mind once more. She closed her eyes.

Kirara – who had followed her and had been sleeping a few feet away from her – suddenly mewled. Brought back to reality, the demon hunter lifted her head. The wind…it was indeed blowing harder. A demon ? Their negative energy tended to unbalance the weather.  Her eyes landed on the demon cat whose attention was fully turned to the direction the furious air was coming from. Sango lifted an eyebrow as her small demon friend was showing neither friendliness nor aggressiveness in her attitude. Awkward.

No time for bathing; she had taken her informal clothes with her, but she’d have to put on her demon hunter uniform again.

Her humid skin damped her clothes but she didn’t care. Her partly wet hair tightly bound in a high ponytail, she glanced over at the demon. Nothing had changed. It was the first time she couldn’t decipher her. With a small frustration she took her sword (she had let her giant boomerang with the others; she regretted it now).

“Kirara.”

With a satisfied mewl the demon cat trotted, Sango following her at a slower pace.

Quiet. Quiet. Even quieter. Whatever she was being led to, she should stay unnoticed.

Her awareness of her surrounding had increased. Wood cracked on her left. She stopped. Waited. Nothing. Kirara wasn’t paying attention to it and so she did. Life was everywhere around her. The songs and cries, the footsteps and noise, the breathes; but they all disappeared, her mind entirely focused on her target. Everything around her slowed down.

The forest became less dense. Trees were gradually replaced by high bushes; the grass was becoming higher, greener, with a light touch of blue.

She took out her sword as the demon cat disappeared behind a smaller bush. Whatever Kirara had sensed it was on the other side. Sango delicately pushed the branches away, ignoring as they tried to hold her back, leaving marks on her hands and face. Her eyes searched for the origin of the noise…

Her body relaxed.

“Inuyasha ?”

His dog ears twitched. He turned around, surprise in his eyes and Tessaiga turning back in its rotten form.

“Sango ? What are you doing here ?”

“That should be my line.”

Kirara rushed to him, obviously pleased to have found him. The demon hunter walked toward him as well.

“Training on your own ?” she asked, pointing the sword with her chin.

“Yeah. I’m sure there’s more I could do with Tessaiga.”

His gaze trailed off the sword before turning to her; his eyes stayed on her humid hair for a few seconds, he didn’t say anything though. And the demon hunter didn’t ask farther as well. Actually, she wasn’t that surprised to have found him alone. The half demon trained on his own regularly, sometimes with Kirara. Once, Sango had watched them and Inuyasha had eventually asked her if she wanted to train with him as well; he had reassured her though : he’d go easy on her. How could she not have taken advantage of it ? Three times they had trained together after that. And why not a fourth time ? It could only improve her mood.

“Well, shall we try it out ?”

Nervousness clouded his eyes for a heartbeat before interest took over.

“Keh !” His sword took its offensive form again. “Don’t cry if I break your sword.”

She smiled provocatively.

“As if.”

With a mewl, Kirara ran away, leaving them on their own.

None of them moved, thinking about which approach to take. Sango had a clear advantage : Inuyasha was holding himself back and had to think about what he was going to do – something he wasn’t exactly used to – all she had to do was to push the limits he had put on himself.

The silence was suddenly broken as the two swords clashed loudly. The echo was almost finished as they clashed again. Again. Again. Faster. Faster. Faster. Jumps and bows : aside, forwards, backwards. A song of weapons and breaths was filling the glade.

The coldness of her damped clothes had disappeared replaced by a spreading warmth. Each muscle did their best to accomplish their task. The blood was rushing at a quick pace inside her, obedient to the increasing adrenaline in her veins. Her lungs were on fire, sending a sweet burning sensation to her throat. She was feeling alive. Reaching her limits only filled her with unknown energy. That’s why she loved her job as a demon hunter. However, those trainings were even better as she could share that overjoyment.

Her sword reached for a vital point. He froze for a second before stopping her with his bare hand. He smirked, she smirked back. Sweat was running down her face and even though the young male had a better stamina, due to his demon blood, even he showed signs of tiredness. Holding himself back had to be tiring for someone unused to it.

“And now ?” she asked, her smile still floating on her lips.

“Give up ! I’ve won !”

“You wish.”

She jumped forward, using close combat to free her sword. She felt great. She had fun. Seeing Inuyasha unaffected after what had happ---

Shit !

Her triumphant smirk faded. The world was spinning around her. Why did she have to think about it ?

“Oy ! Sango !”

She snapped back and her eyes lifted to cross his’.

“I’d have cut you in pieces if I hadn’t stopped myself in time.” He was visibly upset. “Oy !”

Without thinking she attacked him. She didn’t wait for him to parry her offensive, her sword suddenly changed its direction. Attack, attack, attack !

Why did that bother her so much ? Why when everyone didn’t care ? Why could she NOT care ? Why when she didn’t even feel anything for him ? He wasn’t her type ! Her type was--- Not him ! He was an ally ! A friend ! Nothing else ! What had happened didn’t mean ANYTHING !!!

Her body was suddenly falling forward. Letting out a yelp, she realized too late that Inuyasha had tripped backwards and had tried finding his balance by gripping her arm.

Their head knocked hard. Pain covered all her senses and her mind blurred. Nothingness.

Her hands twitched in an attempt to wake her up. Stunned, she adopted an on-four-legs position. A quick inhale made her open her eyes; they widened as she realized her nose was teasing Inuyasha’s one. Awkwardly familiar. He was just like her, eyes wide, body frozen. Both were red and she could feel his frantic heart beating under her. But that was due to their fight, of course. There was no attraction between them. She wasn’t attracted by him. She wasn’t. Her heartbeats were covering her ears. She had only been a victim of that miasma. It could have been anyone else. She couldn’t breathe. Her actions hadn’t meant anything. Her head was spinning. She…could…prove it…

His eyes widened as she closed the gap between them.

************************************

“I wonder what Shippo wants to talk over… He looked so serious.” Kagome commented.

“…”

The sun was already high in the sky. Their journey should have started long ago but the fox demon had insisted to have a man on man conversation with Inuyasha. Sango couldn’t help but worry. Did he know ? There was no way he would. Though…Shippo could be extremely sharp from time to time… What had he seen in them ?

“Sango ? You alright ? You look a bit pale.”

Head tilted to the side, her friend was looking at her face.

“Ah, I’m a bit tired. That’s all.”

A weak smile replaced her worried features.

“Do you want us to find an inn ?” suggested her friend with real concern in her voice.

“I’ll be alright, don’t---“

A hand on her ass made her jerk. Blood rushed to her face.

“Hoshi-sama ! she screamed accusingly.

In a swift movement she turned around and slapped him.

“And here I just wanted to lift up your weariness.” he said with a hurt voice.

“I-It really isn’t the moment !!”

Her blush increased against her will.

“Shippo-chan ! Inuyasha !”

Sango and Miroku turned around to face a nervous Inuyasha approaching them. A few steps ahead of him walked an adult mimicking Shippo : his chin was pointing upward, his gait filled with confidence, his facial expression severe. Kagome squatted and smiled fondly at the demon child.

“So, what did the two of you spoke about ?”

He stuck out his chest.

“We had a man on man conversation. I can’t tell you.”

The demon hunter crossed the half demon’s gaze but it was short lived; both quickly looked away. She chose to look back at Shippo, she needed to keep her attention away from him. Kirara was welcoming the fox demon but he was ignoring her marks of affection. Still in his role he pointed an accusing finger at her.

“Make a choice before it’s too late !” he ordered.

Bewildered, she didn’t have any reaction. From the corner of her eyes she caught the mortified expression of the hanyou.

The child turned around and put his hand on his hips.

“Now let’s go !”

He led the way; the rest of the group followed him soon after, amused (well half of them at least). Even after almost ten minutes he still hadn’t given up his adult attitude.

“He sure is growing fast, right Inuyasha ?” Kagome teased.

She was slightly bowed in his direction so Shippo wouldn’t hear her.

“Keh !”

He looked on the other side, unconvinced.

Listening to the monk, Sango wasn’t really paying attention to her surroundings. Her attention was broken though as she felt herself being watched. She looked around; the nervously twitching ears and rigid body betrayed Inuyasha. She sighed.

Oh well…it could have been worse…
I have the picture on my computer for a long time so I have no idea where I found it. XD Been a few years...

I did this for a small contest of :iconinusan-fan-group:. I love this pairing but I feel it doesn't have enough fandom so when I read about the contest I thought : why not ? I have another story from Inuyasha's POV.

This occurs after the episode where Sango tries kissing Inuyasha.

I kind of feel like this is rushed. From confusion to kiss (should take longer in my opinion but I wanted to write a one shot, not a complete story), but...I hope the fact she was filled with adrenaline makes it not so rushed ? ^^"
